Zero Balancing
Developed by Fritz Smith, MD in the early 1970s, Zero Balancing is a powerful body-mind therapy that uses skilled touch to address the relationship between energy and structures of the body. Following a protocol that typically lasts 30 to 45 minutes, the practitioner uses finger pressure and gentle traction on areas of tension in the bones, joints and soft tissue to create fulcrums, or points of balance, around which the body can relax and reorganize.
Zero Balancing focuses primarily on key joints of our skeleton that conduct and balance forces of gravity, posture and movement. By addressing the deepest and densest tissues of the body along with soft tissue and energy fields, Zero Balancing helps to clear blocks in the bodys energy flow, amplify vitality and contribute to better postural alignment. A Zero Balancing session leaves you with a wonderful feeling of inner harmony and organization.
How can Zero Balancing help you?
Zero Balancing can help relieve body aches and pain, release restrictions in movement, and provide lasting relief from emotional distress to improve overall quality of life. Zero Balancing can also be helpful with specific goals such as relief from back pain, improving concentration or sleep, releasing unwanted stress, eliminating old behavior patterns, or boosting well-being. Zero Balancing works in conjunction with medical therapy and is not a substitute for it. For more information, visit the Zero Balancing website.

What to expect
For your first visit your therapist will complete an initial assessment, the length of which will be determined by your reason for visiting. This will help your therapist determine which areas of the body require treatment. It is common for your therapist to take a moderate approach at the first visit in order to determine response & reaction, and then to adjust the treatment as necessary in the following visits. Be sure to let your therapist know if anything feels uncomfortable or painful, or you simply have any questions about the treatment provided. Remember this is your treatment and your therapist can make modifications to make the massage as comfortable as possible for you.
Before the treatment your therapist will inform you of how to lie on the table and which items of clothing to leave on or remove. During the massage your therapist will only undrape (uncover) the areas that are going to be treated.
Often exercises and home care will be given at a later appointment (after your therapist has become familiar with your condition and has been able to assess your response to treatment) but be prepared that basic home care or instructions may be given at your first appointment.
What is Five Element Acupuncture?
Classical Five Element Acupuncture asks not what symptoms you have, but who is this person who has these symptoms. Treatment is based on this assessment, an assessment of the qi energetic dynamics within you. As each person is unique, so the treatment is unique. There are no formula treatments. When the needles connect with the meridians of the qi energy, they connect with you. They are helping unite all the life forces within you so that you can heal. The qi underlies the functions of the body, and also of the mind and the spirit.
Conditions Treated
Arthritis, pain, fatigue, depression, anxiety, headaches, back pain, constipation, impotence, eating disorders, skin problems, insomnia, life crises, stress, despair, multiple sclerosis, S.A.D., indigestion, asthma, lack of confidence, peri-menstrual and peri-menopausal problems, surgical complications, anaemia, joint problems, and cystitis, among others.
Initial diagnosis lasts 1½ to 2 hours and consists of conversation and non-intrusive physical examination. Treatments last 40minutes to 1hr. Sterile disposable stainless steel needles are used.
